Challenge Coins

“A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion, bearing an organization's insignia or emblem and carried by the organization's members. Traditionally, they might be given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. They are also collected by service members and law enforcement personnel. Historically, challenge coins were presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. They could also be exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.” - Wikipedia

The Defense Logistics Agency Distribution was one of my biggest clients and one of their biggest projects were Challenge Coins. Each coin was always a learning experience. Every commander has a different style and it’s important to understand their mission and what they represent.

With zero experience in coin design I had to do my research on plating, edges, textures, finish, and the branch that the commander is in. It was a challenge to convey a big message on a ‘little’ coin. With every coin I was more confident in providing quality products to my client.
